Getting Started with Wordpress: Keyword Research and Longtail Keywords

Longtails: Laying a Good Keyword Research Foundation

Hello.  Today I want to make a recommendation to those getting started with Wordpress blogs.  When you do your keyword research - which is the very first thing you should DO - you really ought to consider hunting for true "longtail" keywords.

True longtail keywords are 4 words and more.  Believe it or not, sometimes when I'm performing keyword research I find phrases that are 3 words and have decent enough search - but turn out to be too competitive.

And if they're too competitive for myself - Jan

...then these '3 word' keyword phrases will likely be too difficult for newcomers to the game (Wordpress that is).

Now, don't get me wrong - you can STILL find some non-competitive 3-word keyword phrases. You just need to be prepared to dig down DEEP and hunt for 4, 5 and 6 word phrases you can use.

Before I forget, I want to recommend this great post that SHOWS you that 4-word keyword phrases are getting the bulk of the traffic.

What's neat is it contains CHARTS & visuals that prove that longtails are worthwhile - they convert better - as the first visual illustrates.

It makes sense if you think about it a while.  When shoppers are looking for something online, & they type descriptors in.. it means they are closer to making a decision.

Longtail Keywords: Go with What Works Best

Since terms with more descriptors in them are fruitful, as a beginner to wordpress you should train yourself now to dig for the gold !  That's my opinion.  Go to my life skills training blog for some sound keyword training.

It's good for beginners.  In conjunction with this tutorial, you ought to view the Blog Template I hyperlinked in this sentence.  It shows you how to execute "h1" tags, "h2" tags, coding for italics or BOLD, and how to Center something on a page.

Something else that is useful for Newbies to know is Image "alt-text" SEO.  I did a whole video post on this, and so you can visit Alt-tag seo post .  The vid is 4 minutes long, and is easy for newcomers to digest.

Wordpress for Beginners: Post Thumbnail editor and more..

April 24, 2013

Here's a useful post for beginners to wordpress - my post contains two (2) video tutorials by really easy-going fellows.  If you're a relative newcomer to Wordpress, you'll get a ton out of these video instructionals.

I especially like the 2nd video.  In it, Tyler Moore demonstrates HOW to fashion a blog using a theme with Sliders .

You'll see how to use "Featured Image" within your Wordpress, plus how to "spiff up" your front page.  And you'll learn how to use certain plugins - for example, a thumbnail plugin.
(it's  called Post Thumbnail editor).

It's a really cool plugin. To read more about it visit THIS url

It's rated 4.7 out of 5 stars

You will need version 3.5 (or higher) of wordpress. The other video introduces one to wordpress and features how to write your posts (explains how readers tend to SCAN a blog - and WHAT you should do, as  a result).

Also included:  an example of a template

To read the full post, go to Life Skills Training and education .  Alternately, go read up on how to do keyword research

Intriguing Lessons from an SEO Master Crafting Your Youtube Channel Properly

What Lessons can One Learn from a Mentor?

The answer is many meaningful insights can be accrued from a "master", or mentor.  So if you are toward the beginning of your online career, you'd do well to really HEAR this:

Align yourself with a good mentor

In today's post, I enlighten you as to the importance of learning about "on-page SEO" within Youtube -  if you will learn to fashion your Youtube descriptions and titles correctly (as well as LEARN to develop your Youtube channel and playlists ), you'll attract the spiders to your channel, and to your videos.

The main post regarding the above (VIDEO Seo) is at  Life Skills Training and Curriculum .

It speaks of how often to use your Primary keyword phrase within a Youtube video.  It also covers advanced keyword research (related keyword research) techniques.

Using Youtube Video: Beginners Lessons

If you don't know from Playlists, you can glean some useful info from my Life Skills blog post entitled, "Mentoring Lessons".

You can find out some stuff about thumbnails, playlists, video blogging - even the SIZE your video ought to be when you're copying the embed code from Youtube (to place in your blog, into "html" section).

Here's an excerpt (for example) - "Why do I want you to receive mentoring lessons in Keyword Research?  I firmly believe it will help beginners to WordPress to get a good education.  I was quite confused about video seo, and.." -  from Life Skills Training blog

Breaking News on Keyword Research: 4 Lessons Learned from a Keyword Expert

Hi all.

Jan Ashby here.
If you're new to keyword research, you should pay attention as I have a few Golden Nuggets of information:
Today I share with you 4 mentoring lessons I gleaned from an SEO and keyword research master. Just who am I talking about?

I'm referring to John Jarvis, an ex-construction worker turned internet marketer - he truly knows his stuff.  This Canadian gentleman has many top ten listings - one of them is "how to be first on Google".

(Click link above, for proof of his Top 10 result - use control "F" on your keyboard to do a Search for John Jarvis).

*Note: When you see his youtube video, it will say Henry Jarvis - that is him !  As of today (April 10, 2013) he is in position 7 )

The Meaningful Lessons Learned: Keyword Research

Since I was somewhat of a newbie on keyword research, I wanted to learn a lot MORE about the topic.  I found that John Jarvis was not a braggart - he truly knew many meaningful lessons, and I decided I could get a great education from him.

I learned about stuff like "related keywords", longtail keywords, and how to use video appropriately in my wordpress blog posts. If you are a Wordpress beginner (and especially if you're wanting to learn about video blogging and video SEO), then you too can become illuminated.

If you have a thirst for blogging and want to get started, you should visit my Free Internet Marketing training post.  It will show you how to design your blog, set up your plugins and permalink structure, how to design your Home Page, how to add video and "widgets" to your blog, and also how to get a Facebook fan page set up (plus info on Facebook groups).

Back to keyword research - I 've got some free video lessons on keyword research to share with you - here is an excellent tutorial on Related keywords .

Additionally I'd like you to check a post I made over at my Life Skills wordpress blog - it specifically DETAILS some of the best things I learned from my mentor John Jarvis, regarding keyword research - this includes doing Video seo on one's Youtube channel.

So.. this wraps it up - head over to the Life skills blog and get your great free training .

Oh, one more thing - I did a video re: How to Make money Blogging

Using Twitter 101: Detailed Video Instruction

Today I have a new post about using Twitter in a more advanced way - creating Twitter lists, attending "Twitter Chats", and how to message people. Yes, there is a RIGHT way to do this (you have to be careful when messaging and the video instruction in my Life Skills post details this).

As you may know, you can browse different topics by inputting a keyword phrase.  If you will use the hashtag (#), then you can find all conversations that are targeting that particular keyword phrase. So you simply type the keyword (s) and place a "#" (pound sign) in front of it.

What does the hashtag do? Well, it ties the conversations of different users into one stream for you. You may start your SEARCH at search.twitter.com

To see a really GOOD Video instructional about Twitter - you can view this vid:

**Note:  At the Life Skills training page, where you'll go to FIND the video instruction, the last video on the page says "How to Use Twitter for Businesss Part 1".  Just wanted to let you know that if you want, you can find the other parts of that series on Youtube .
